Link Building Tip: Great backlinks from Searchles.com

July 19th, 2008 | 32 Comments

I have found a great site for link building, in that you can join different groups, and have the articles submitted not only to your profile, but also to each one of the groups.

That site is http://www.searchles.com  It’s a PR 6 dofollow social media site.

For those who didn’t read the Mr Wong article, here’s basically what you do on Searchles:
1)    You join the site.
2)    You join a few different related groups for whatever site you’ll be submitting your blog posts and inner pages from.
3)    If there aren’t any related groups (which is doubtful) but if there aren’t, then create a group yourself!
4)    You submit the article, choosing to send the links to the related groups also.
5)    Now you have multiple backlinks… one on your profile page, and one per group that you joined.
6)    Now, on Mr. Wong, the tag pages had no follow links.  But, on Searchles, the tag pages are dofollow links.  So, you can add 3-4 tags, and have 3-4 groups, and get 7-9 different dofollow links per submission.

Since you are submitting all of the pages and posts from your site, this is building great links to your inner pages, something Google really likes.

So, if you’ve already submitted all of your pages and posts to Mr Wong, now you have a whole new dofollow social media site to submit to!

Also, as an added bonus, there is a fairly active community there in some of the groups, so you’re not only getting related links to your inner pages, but you can also get some good traffic from like-minded individuals who are a part of the groups and paying attention to all of the new posts to the groups.

Social Bookmarking Explained

July 9th, 2008 | 8 Comments

Social BookmarkingYou’ve probably heard of social bookmarking before. If you haven’t, it’s not all that complicated. It’s just a way for users to store their bookmarks online. And here’s why this is hot for the end-user…

Basically, if all your favorite webpages are online; they aren’t limited by the computer you’re on. You can access them from your work or home computer just as easily as a public computer at the library.

Also, instead of putting them in folders you create (like the old fashioned way you’re forced to organize things in your Internet Explorer favorites tab), your bookmarks are accessible by tags. That means you can assign a single bookmark to multiple categories (in case you’re like me and forget if your Mambo Templates site was in the CMS Folder or the Blog Folder).

Mister-Wong: A Dofollow Social Media Site for Tons of Backlinks.

July 5th, 2008 | 51 Comments

UPDATE: The following method no longer works… Mr. Wong has disabled the use of groups.  But, you can still read it, get the technique, and try and find other social news sites that have groups and apply the same concept (submitting the same article to similar groups, for more backlinks).  Check out my article on Using Searchles for Link Building.  It uses the same concept as below for a different site.

I recently wrote about some dofollow social media sites and one of those was Mister Wong.  This PR 7 dofollow social media site is awesome.  While doing some link building, I decided to give it a try, and as I was playing around, I found a FANTASTIC way to submit articles to Mister-Wong quickly, and so that it appears on multiple pages, instead of just your profile (which means more and more backlinks).

Follow these steps to get multiple backlinks:

1)    Sign-up for Mister Wong.

2)    If you have Firefox, go to the “Creating Bookmarks Page” and install the Firefox add-on, and restart your browser.

3)    Then, on the Mister-Wong site, go to the “Groups Page”.  Here you can join or create new groups.  Now there are advantages and disadvantages to both creating and joining groups.  For creating a group, you ensure that there will be less bookmarks submitted per group, meaning all of your links get the maximum link juice.  But, since you’ll be the only one in the group, it’ll only be linked to pretty much from your page only.  Now if you join an existing group, you have to share the link juice with all of the other people’s bookmarks, but there’s also more links pointing to the group, since there’s multiple users in the group.  It’s a balance, and I suggest joining some and creating some.

4)    I suggest you be a part of 10 groups at least.  Now, when naming your groups, you want to name them to be something related to what your site is about.  For Link Building Bible, some possible ones could be “SEO” “links” “backlinks” “blogs” “ blogging” “linking” “linkbuilding” etc… (There is a 12 character maximum for group names… so be creative… I could do “links 1” “links 2” “backlinks 2” “seo 3” etc.)

5)    Now, start using the Firefox add-on buttons to add sites to Mister-Wong (or just navigate to the site and submit your posts and pages there from the Add page, though it takes longer.)

6)    When adding, make sure you submit to as many groups as possible and to ones that are relevant.   Then, for each group you submit to, that’s an extra link.  So, if you have 50 pages on your site, and you submit each one to 10 groups each, that’s  550 links. (50×10= 500 for the groups, and 50 on your Mister-Wong profile page.)

7)    BEWARE: Using many tags is useless, since the links on the Tag pages are nofollow.  But the links on the group pages are dofollow, as well as the links on your profile.  The tags are basically to help add relevance to your article, so do use a few tags, just don’t go overboard thinking it’s going to help you with link building, as it really won’t.

Follow these steps, and you’ll be able to create many backlinks to your site.  To give your profile and your groups even more link juice, and more crawlability, find ways to link to your Mister-Wong profile from other pages, and find ways to link to your Mister-Wong groups from related pages.  (A good way to do it would be to leave a comment on a related Gather article to your Mister-Wong groups.)

Using Internal Linking to Build Backlinks – Part 6

June 18th, 2008 | 16 Comments

Click here to read from the beginning of the internal link building series.

I’m not going to go into the importance of building internal links, (for that, click above for the whole series), but I just want to let you know, it’s important!  For a brief description, internal link building is building links between the pages or posts on your website or blog, in order for better reader usability, and for better search engine crawling.

The problem I have when doing internal link building is that I usually link to the same sites.  You’ll probably find tons of links to my What Is DoFollow? What Is NoFollow? post and of course tons of links to DoFollow Diver.  But, I have almost 50 posts, but I link to the same handful all of the time.  Although that’s really building up THOSE pages, other, perfectly great posts, aren’t getting the exposure they deserve.

Well, I found out a way to see which sites are being neglected when it comes to internal link building.  That tool, is Google Webmaster Tools

Follow these steps:
1) Choose which site (your site should be already added to GWT, if not, add it….)
2) Click “Links” on the left sidebar.
3) Click “Pages with internal links.”
4) Then, look in the “internal links” column and see which posts have the least amount of internal links.

For me, Dofollow Diver has 70 links on my site…. whereas The Ultimate List of CommentLuv Blogs and How NOT to Build Backlinks only have less than 7 links each! That’s 1/10th of the amount of internal links! They don’t all have to be equal, but it definitely helps me to identify what pages I should link to more.

I hope this really helps you to build more backlinks to your internal pages. It sure has enlightened me, and makes me remember that I have many posts that I can link to and share with my readers.

Link Building Tip: Build Backlinks to Internal Pages Too

June 13th, 2008 | 13 Comments

When commenting for backlinks, don’t just stick to one set of keywords and one URL. If you didn’t know, I am a huge fan of commenting on dofollow blogs in order to get solid backlinks to your site. In fact, I even created a list of blogs with dofollow in my search engine called DoFollow Diver, in order assist people in getting more backlinks to their site.

But, when commenting, we can get stuck in the ritual of using the same keywords for our name … probably our main keyword. We also can get stuck in building links to only our main index page, and not to various pages throughout our site. I am guilty of this for sure.

But, it’s not maximizing the benefit we can get to our site. So, here are a few of the reasons it is necessary to build links with different keywords and to different pages on your site, not just the index:

1) Your inner pages may be more relevant to a certain page you’re commenting on.
I often live by the motto… “Any link is a good link.” But, not every link is a GREAT link, and some only give just a little bit of a boost, nothing much to make any type of difference. If you have a post about dofollow blogs search engines on your dofollow blog, and I go and comment on that blog with my main index page, I’ll get SOME relevance, but not too much. But, if I leave a comment with the Dofollow Diver URL, then I’ll have much more relevance and the link will be worth a lot more, even though it’s the same page, one link is just a lot more relevant. When commenting on a post, think about what the most relevant blog post of yours is, and use that to comment with.

2) Linking only to your homepage doesn’t look natural.
Yah, a majority of the times, when people link to your site, they link to the homepage of your site… but NOT always. But, if you are always using your main index URL when commenting, that won’t look natural. Instead, mix it up… in addition to the relevance reason above, the diversification effect will also help you. It will help you to rank for some longer tail keywords that you may or may not be targetting. You should probably aim for about 75% to your main index page, and about 25% to your internal pages. These aren’t hard numbers, and you need to experiment with what works best for you.

3) More organic traffic.
Ultimately, the main goal of building links, is to increase search engine traffic. But, the more links your page is on, the more exposure you have from people wanting to click on those links. To use the example from the first point, if I am commenting on a blog post about dofollow blog search engines, and I comment with the inlineseo.com URL, then yah, some people might click through, but not too many. But, if I comment with the dofollow diver URL, and use the name “dofollow blogs search engine” people who are at the blog post looking for dofollow blog search engines may very well click through on my comment URL, giving me more visitors, more subscribers, and more people able to click on ads, ultimately meaning more money for me.

So when commenting, and posting your URL somewhere, don’t just use your main index page, use the most relevant page on your site, and then use that to post the link, in order to increase your search engine rankings, in order to make it look more natural, and to ultimately drive more traffic to your site.
