I have been submitting articles for quite some time now and have got some great results. Although I agree with some of the comments that Google is starting to ignore the majority of the low quality article sites. We have used this to build out our links a bit. It is getting harder though because the search engines are getting smarter about what directories are "junk" directories that are nothing more than link farms. Manualy submiting articles to the best sites will work better than auto submissions any time.
