Gathering and Building Great Free Backlinks with Gather
Wow… whenever I go through my RSS reader, I always see awesome posts people have written about link building tips. One particular place that I usually find great tips is Mixed Market Arts. I recently wrote about link building with Unasked, which is a great tip I got from Collin at Mixed Market Arts.
Today’s tip is also from Collin, but I have expanded on it to create even more opportunities for you to create solid free backlinks.
The article on Mixed Market Arts, Link Building with Gather, shows you an awesome site which allows people to submit articles to, called Gather.
Before you go read the article on Mixed Market Arts, read-on here for a way to go above and beyond the tips Collin provides, with regards to creating backlinks.
Collin talks about joining Gather, and submitting articles with backlinks in the articles, with the anchor text of your choice. All of those links are “dofollow” links. (What is dofollow?)
While I was sitting back amazed at this great link building opportunity, I realized that using their comment system, you can leave comments on people’s articles, and the comments have “dofollow” links also! This is an amazing opportunity.
1) Use the Gather search form, type in your keyword (for me, I’d type in “link building”). Then, find articles that people have written about your keyword. Then, leave a non-spam looking, legit comment on their articles, using a link with the anchor text of your choosing (just use normal HTML tags for links) and you have just built a backlink!
2) Find the articles with higher PR. Although this will be harder to do, and the links will not be relevant links, they will still be pr4, pr3, and pr2 links back to your website with the anchor text of your choice.
I hope that now when you read the article about Gather over at Mixed Market Arts, you can build more backlinks to your site using Gather. We all love free backlinks!

How can I determine which article has a higher PR?
Lane’s last blog post..Human Footprint
Browse around different topics, and make sure that you have the Google toolbar installed for Firefox (I think they have it for IE too, but not sure) Then, as you load articles, see what the PR is on the toolbar.
Hey, found your website on DP. Great information. I have the same question as Lane. How do you find the articles that have higher PR? I went back to articles over a year old and I can’t find any articles w/ PR.
Many of them don’t have higher PR. This isn’t just to pass PR, but also to get super easy backlinks. These are free backlinks, for shooting a quick little comment on a related post.
But yah, Gather doesn’t have many high PR pages.
Hey,
So, I tested out gather. I posted about 10 good comments and submitted 2 articles. I’m still waiting for the results to show up. I’d assume gather would get indexed a lot faster than sites like bestsyndication and selfgrowth. But, this isn’t the case, and I’m still waiting for the comments and articles to get indexed. BS and selfgrowth backlinks get indexed within 2 days.
Do you know of any other popular sites like gather? I found a few but I forgot their names.
The best way to check for page rank is down load the google toolbar this will show you the page rank for each page you land on. Anyway I’m off to gather thanks for the tip
There’s other ways to find the higher page rank pages within a website than the google toolbar.
Yup. Worked just like you said. Signed up with Gather. Found an article. Posted a comment with a link and anchor text. Did not take the time to find a high pr gather page so if anyone wants to put together a list we would all appreciate it.

Even a single high PR do follow backlink can effect ranking a lot in Google so thanks for sharing a cool tip and resource. I am wondering how many of us use legit methods of link building? I have lost 2 of my sites forever due to improper link building and related stuff but now I know what to do.
This certainly looks like a nice tool to find those valuable backlinks, thanks.
Link building is not an easy task. I need to search for do follow blogs and leave comments on them. As for now, I still can do it by myself because my blog is not big project anyway. If you can master the easy way to build link, this job is fun.
I would disagree here. The article claims that “Gather” to be better than “Squidoo” in some senses. Although search engines are clever in indexing in dynamic URLs but S have friendly and relevant URLs to search terms. I haven’t seen much penalties against S as well.
I will work on G soon and provide my update.
Regards
Nice post and cool tool for calculating backlinks.Getting backlinks is not an easy task as you need to very much dedicated to it and you must know all how and why to build it. There are many ways through which links can be build. They are competitors backlinks(if you know any of your competitor website then search out for the backlinks which he have), craiglist, Wikipedia submissions, educational and govt website backlinks, give away some freebie tools, social networking, yahoo answers and many more. If you seriously try them then are sure to get good output for them..
Best is to outsource this work and extend it to great levels – that is power link building.

Great post, I have been searching for Higher PR sites to comment on. I know there are a few tools out there that find DOFOLLOW blogs, this has cut my search time down dramatically. They also let you choose which PR you want to search for at the min. But thank you for taking your time on writing this post and linking to other sites to find dofollow and nofollow sites.
