Why CommentLuv Will Expand Your Link Building Efforts

March 30th, 2008 | 145 Comments

The following is a guest post from Nick Cristey; owner of Hannah Montana Zone – a Miley Cyrus fansite.

Amongst other ways of one way link building such as social bookmarking (preferably on “dofollow” sites) and article writing, blog comment posting is a popular one. If you don’t know that commenting on people’s blogs who do not use “nofollow” increases your backlinks, then start finding blogs that you can comment on as part of your link building campaigns (starting with Link Building Bible!)

There’s a Wordpress Plug-in that blog owners can place on their blog that searches a commenter’s RSS feed and posts the title of the most recent feed at the bottom of a blog post with a link to that post. This plug-in is called CommentLuv. Link Building Bible has just added it to their blog. It is a fantastic way for a blog owner to encourage comments on their blog.

The problem here is how to find relevant blogs on which to comment on – and of course Google comes to our aid!

Simply go to Google and type this in, replacing “Your Keyword” with, well, your keyword:

Your Keyword “Enable CommentLuv which will try and get your last blog post, please be patient while it finds it for you”

At the moment of writing this, there are 555,000 blogs that contain that bit of text, which is 555,000 blogs you can leave your comment on. By simply adding your keyword at the beginning of the search term, you can reduce this larger number to blogs relevant to your niche. For example, say we are targeting the keyword “Technology”. To find all the relevant blogs, type in Google:

Technology “Enable CommentLuv which will try and get your last blog post, please be patient while it finds it for you”

And we get about 200 blogs we can comment on. Assuming that our comments are not spam and add value to the blog post, that’s 400 backlinks for this one term (One for your anchor text link, and one for your most recent RSS feed)! Of course the above is a single niche example which is quite limited but you get the idea!

Now it’s time to change the term to our other niche related keywords we are targeting, and start commenting!

NOTE: When posting comments on other people’s blogs, do not spam. Make your comment helpful and useful to help preserve the “dofollow” community. (What is dofollow? Find out here.)

  1. Yes, I do agree that CommentLuv and KeywordLuv are probably the most useful and effective WordPress plug-ins. I only wish they weren’t as attractive to spammers.

  2. George says:

I just started getting into one way link building. Using Dofollow and thought that was great. Now that I read this post and learn about CommentLuv, I think It’s way better. Thanks

  3. Thanks for sharing this excellent technique, blog commenting can be quite painful and time consuming so this should save oodles of time

  4. Using both these on some of my sites and seem to be very positive so far, better dealing with real people instead of just tons of spam.

  5. Yeah, thanks for sharing this with us. CommentLuv really helps out and finding blogs with them are definitely better!

  6. Thanks for the heads-up on DoFollow Diver. It is an incredibly helpful tool, makes link building less excruciating.

  7. I am curious to the comment luv blog owners if they saw in increase in their page rank after using this plugin? I am thinking about setting up a blog with this plugin to encourage participation but it would be nice if all the comments helped with our page rank..

  8. This will be something I will add to my list of things to do for my clients here in Chicago. Thanks for the search tip

  9. Cool Thanks for the useful information. At least now I know what is CommentLuv and how to find it :)

  10. OMG… I love you! You don’t know how it hard for me to find do follow blogs and get so desperated why I can’t find it fast? this is so helpful, thank you so much

    God bless you

  11. Thanks for your tips, I have recently installed Comment Luv on my website but wasn’t sure how to go about searching for participating sites. That is a great tip to type in that commonly used text the plug-in generates to find other blogs that use it. Genius!

  12. Nice plugin!

I will put it on my blog to test how it is working

    Thanks a lot

  13. this is a beautiful tip. Customizing search results in this way is a great way of getting some useful info, and it helps a lot that many helpful link-building/traffic-increasing services have the same text in them.

  14. Really useful resource as it provides the bloggers the credit they deserve…really appreciate this remarkable service…Comment Luv rules…

  15. Thanks for the information, I’ve just started doing this and found that Fast Blog finder can do this as well. They have some good articles on their site as well. I did try the manual (and free!!) approach but easily got confused and forgot which ones I;d already found.

  16. Commentluv and Dofollow are great strategies for link building. No comment spam, though, it will kill the golden link-producing goose.

Commentluv will eventually produce deep links, too.

  17. Irene says:

I think that commentluv is really good, for blog owner, commenter and reader. The commenter gets a deep link, the reader knows directly what’s behind the title (better than a name) and for the blog owner the blog becomes more transparent

  18. I just recently installed CommentLuv and KeywordLuv on my site, but it is too soon to tell if it has had any effect on my rankings. One of my problems has been finding related sites with CommentLuv enabled, but your DoFollow Diver search engine looks very promising. I intend to give it a try. Thanks.

  19. Thanks for your wonderful post. I also used the Dofollow Diver that you mentioned and it really is a very good search engine.

The only thing that blog owners need to look out for are spam comments as having these plugins makes spammers attracted to these blogs.

  20. Have been using commentluv for a while on my site, there have been some spam issues but that goes with the territory, still think it’s a win win situation.

Have had some difficulty finding blog to comment on so thanks for the search string tip.

  21. Free Games says:

I love commentluv. Aside from some of its seo benefits, I really think it helps to bring a community to various blogs. When one is done writing their blog posts, they visit other blogs, and are encouraged to comment so they contribute, and get a little PR for their blog post at the same time.

  22. Commentluv is a great plug-in to help get more people to interact with your blog I also use keywordluv and have found great success with that plug-in as well!
    Good find!:)

  23. Just recently stumbled upon this CommentLuv plugin. I was not aware of this nofollow thing regarding backlink. Now it makes it alot easier to leave relevant comments and get your backlinks counted as well.

  24. Franz@Buyinpoker says:

Dofollow Diver is the best search engine. Ever. Thank you so much :)
This is soooo going to help me.

  25. Just stopping by to say thanx. Have learned about CommentLuv today and spent the whole day commenting away. I do agree in regards to posting meaningful comments, since while they take longer to write, they ensure approval and benefit to both parties

  26. Comment Luv is such a great wp plugin, I recently installed it on majority of my blogs, I also like the keyword luv and top commentators plugins! Have seen an increase in blog comments since then.

    Great Resource/Post!

  27. Fauzia says:

    Hi,
Really nice and informative post. As I am a professional blogger, this post will help me a great deal. Keep up the good work.

  28. Rhys says:

    Hi -
I’m seriously thinking about removing comment luv because I spend too much time deleting ‘drive-by’ comment and spam from my posts. I have a clear warning above the post box, but they still do it!
    ;-)

  29. Michael says:

I use Commentluv quite often and have found it very helpful for getting first page ranking on google for very competitive markets.

  30. Hey, now this is a cool one. Infact, there used to be more footprints like this one. Still you can find some. Hint- Install other dofollow plugins to get those phrases” There was one something like ” comments may be nofollow free” I had that on my blog. Thanks and continue giving out secret tips like this one.

  31. Michelle says:

I did use CommentLuv on one of the sites I set up a long time ago. When I got legitimate comments it was great. My issue was getting too many spam submissions. I ended up buried in them if I forgot to check comments for more than a day. Thank you for the tips.

  32. jason says:

you have to be careful with commentluv it can send you a ton of spam

  33. To: RHYS
    “Hi -
I’m seriously thinking about removing comment luv because I spend too much time deleting ‘drive-by’ comment and spam from my posts. I have a clear warning above the post box, but they still do it!”

That’s because they are “drive-by”. They don’t even look at your site they just post and go on with their spamming. Sucks.

  34. Innovations are simply inevitable. With the plug ins available, it makes link building a lot more easily. It increases the traffic and the number of page views as well as comments including crappy ones. But whatever purposes there is, it is still back linking that goes into it.

  35. CommentLuv is awesome, I feel that not enough people know about it. It is THE best way to blog/comment/network.

I feel good adding value to someone’s blog and getting a little reward for it.

Does this blog use commentluv? Ha.

  36. Breakaway says:

Hey… when you click through the pages at the bottom, it starts lowering the amount of results that it actually did find, because a lot of them are repeated results. Each of those results is a blog you can go to that somewhere mentions “technology” and if you post your comment, you get the anchor text link ,and the CommentLuv link.

    Hope that helps!

  37. Breakaway says:

You’re right… but being a “top commenter” on a relevant blog, is free advertising.

  38. Breakaway says:

That’s fantastic! And yes, I have had the same thoughts as you have with regards to, “Am I really writing something i want to show on Comment Luv when i comment?”

  39. Breakaway says:

Yah, use whatever search engine you’re comfortable with to find the blogs…. but the links from CommentLuv, will count as backlinks for all search engines.

  40. Breakaway says:

Yah, there’s no way to make it show only dofollow blogs, but you can use my dofollow blogs search engine to search for dofollow blogs, and you can sort out the ones with dofollow CommentLuv.

  41. Breakaway says:

    Awesome…. thanks for subscribing!!!

  42. Breakaway says:

Whats your idea? Please share with the class….

  43. Breakaway says:

Honestly… I don’t know, my site isn’t to that point yet, as it’s only been through 1 PR update, and my site was still too new.

In any matter, PageRank for your own site doesn’t matter too too much until you start getting into 6’s, etc… you can still rank high w/o page rank and being dofollow.

I have dofollow comments, dofollow commentluv, and dofollow top commenters…. plus I am fairly liberal with dofollow linking in posts to good sites… more liberal than most I’ve seen… and I am still ranking higher on Google for link building, a pretty hard niche to rank for. So is there some affect, probably, am I suffering from it? nah..,.

  44. Hi John,
This may be late but if you go to the page you are commenting on and right click, then go to view source, then go to the menu bar and click find, then type in nofollow, if nofollow shows its a nofollow if not then its a dofollow, another way thats really easy cause it gives you all the info you need is at
